Dear Friends:

On Wednesday Jan 31 2018, India Association of Rhode Island (IARI) will have the opportunity to commemorate ‘Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Day’  and advocate for Peace, Nonviolence and Tolerance at the Rhode Island State House.

On this occasion we are inviting students  from Grade 5 to Grade 12  to actively  participate in a ‘Essay Competition’ and share with us their views and thoughts  on the topic of Non Violence. This competition is open to members and non-members of IARI.  Considering today’s political climate, the topic for this year’s competition has been aptly chosen.

“An Eye for an Eye only makes the whole world blind.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Father of Nation (India), Mahatma Gandhi, was great believer and proponent of the philosophy of ‘Nonviolence’. His actions and philosophy have inspired several world leaders, like Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Cesar Chavez, Barack Obama and others, to bring  about social and political change in the society. Today his philosophy is greatly admired throughout the world.

As citizens of tomorrow, YOU will be responsible in bringing in change and making your mark on the world. In your own words, describe the phrase.

“An Eye for an Eye only makes the  whole world blind”
