Thanks to a 3-year grant received from the Rhode Island Council of Arts, IARI is pleased that a long cherished dream of having our community center has been fulfilled. With the offerings of a special puja and hymns, IARI inaugurated the Mahatma Gandhi Cultural Center on October 25, 2015.
The purpose of the MGCC is to provide a venue at which various activities related to the social, cultural, and educational heritage of India can be conducted on a regular basis for the benefit of the Indian American community, as well as to promote our heritage in the larger American society. Special efforts will be made to provide a structured learning environment for the youth of the community to inspire in them lifelong learning, social responsibility, and moral leadership consistent with the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, with workshops focusing on:
Such a structured program - which focuses on cultural preservation, education, and youth development - will help inspire lifelong learning, social responsibility and moral leadership among the youth.
In addition, IARI will offer a variety of programs for adults and senior citizens at the MGCC.
